Summer Is Coming—Options for the Kids

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Despite the fact that it feels like autumn here in Ahburn, by tomorrow we should finally have warmer weather, and it looks like the higher temperatures will be with us for the foreseeable future. Good news for the soccer moms (and dads) freezing on the field lately!

If you are still thinking about what the kids will be doing this summer, let me share with you some great programs from our partners.

Creative Dance Center:

CDC offers a full day camp at their Gordon Park Square location (Old Ashburn). This weekly camp will get the kids moving to hop hop, jazz, musical theatre and more. In addition, campers will have arts and crafts, games and other activites. For 6 years and up.

Camp Primrose—Passport to Adventure!

The Primrose Schools of Ashburn planned an awesome summer for your child! The weekly camp will have 12 different themes and each has a great trip scheduled, including the National Zoo, Mount Vernon, Great Country Farms, and the Baltimore Aquarium.

St. David’s Episcopal Preschool’s Nature Camp!

Offered in two 4-day weeks, Nature Camp is a sneak peek of the popular K-WILD program, where the kids are outdoors learning and exploring! For rising 4-year-old preschoolers through rising 3rd graders.

College Nannies & Tutors  offers an array of services for families over the summer. Many parents prefer to have their children at home over the summer, and CNT will provide a qualified, screened role model for your children. Don’t forget CNT can provide a nanny to go on vacation with you—make your vacation truly a vacation for everyone!

Provide educational support to your kids over the summer through CNT. Whether they need subject help, SAT/ACT prep, or study skills, CNTs individualized programs are designed just for your student.

And if you’re looking for a fun day or a place for your kids to let loose some extra energy, Head to Bazooka Balls for fun with bazooka ball, areoball and the popular media room.

Happy planning!

Please Allow Me to Introduce Myself…

Friday, April 19

Hello Ashburn! As our wonderful Find It In Ashburn website and community grows and grows, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of you as I’m out and about around Ashburn. It’s been great to meet you in person and exchange ideas about how to make Find It In Ashburn even better!

Lisa & Pong at the Ashburn fire house

Me with Pong of Mali Thai Cuisine at the Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue pancake breakfast.

A question I get a lot is, how did this all begin? A little background (pardon my indulgence here!): both of my parents grew up in the Falls Church area and a few years after they married, moved to Cockeysville, MD (just north of Towson, for those of you familiar with the area), where I grew up. My husband, Peter, also grew up in Cockeysville, and after we married, moved around quite a bit for work. We landed here in Ashburn in early 2004, moving on a street that just had a few houses. And we’re here for the duration, at least until our youngest graduates! ;)

I’m a researcher by nature, and dug into the work of finding out about (and bookmarking on my computer) about my new community. As new folks arrived on my street, they often asked me questions: “Where is there an Italian restaurant?” “What park can we take the kids?” “Is there a Little League around?”

At the time, my company, Nova Creative Media, was shifting from print content marketing to social media management. One day it occurred to me it would be great to have all of the information about Ashburn in one place, and thus, Find It In Ashburn was born and the website launched on March 1, 2010. I will say when I first began the undertaking of this project, I had no idea how much–homes, businesses, organizations, etc– is in Ashburn!

I jumped on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ and slowly our community began to grow, with amazing growth over the past six months or so. I get such a thrill interacting with everyone, having fun, sharing information, and helping with recommendations! And with our growth, we’ve been lucky that the business community supports us as well. Our advertisers make it possible to bring you all this wonderful information–and the upgrades you’ll be seeing soon. So please remember them when you’re out and about, and be sure to tell them you appreciate their support of our Find It In Ashburn community.

Thank you all for the kind words, great suggestions, and sense of community! If you see me around Ashburn, please stop and say hi!
