I can’t believe it’s been month since I posted here! Spring is busy, busy for us all! While that is true, I want to share with you two (well, three) very special events happening soon here in Ashburn. The great news is if you’ve got kids activities or other plans when these are happening, you can still contribute to the causes.

Many of our Ashburn community reached out to support the Carter family when their dear daughter Cam passed away in February as a result of her Type 1 Diabetes. In two weeks, you can add your support to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund) in Cam’s memory.

Saturday, May 19: Cam’s Light Race at Stone Hill Middle School is a 5K Race/Fun Run/Walk, and was organized by the 8th grade students as their civics project. Click the link for more information and to register.

Sunday, May 20: Northern Virginia 2012 Walk to Cure Diabetes at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne. Click the link, and you can join the team, donate to the team, or even donate to an individual walker.

Cam’s Light Fund is the Facebook page for information and you can order T-Shirts (by Friday!) and bracelets, even if you aren’t walking to help support this cause.

The First Annual Carter’s Run for Dandy-Walker will be Saturday, May 19 at Ashburn Elementary School. Carter Zimmerman has Dandy-Walker Syndrome, a a congenital brain abnormality. The Zimmerman family of Ashburn is working to raise awareness and funds for research. In addition to the race, the Great Zucchini will be there, along with fun and games for the whole family. Spring Break in Ashburn

Well, spring break 2012 has come and gone here in Ashburn. It seems a lot of you were out of town, somewhere exotic and warm–lucky you! I was actually quite busy, so I ducked out of the home office and was out and about to various Ashburn coffee shops, taking advantage of my ‘secondary’ offices.

I have to share a story–I was at one of my ‘other’ offices, cranking out the work, when the person next to me decided to make a call. A 45-minute call. A business/personal call. In the store, and not using, shall we say, her ‘indoor voice.’ May I offer an observation? These wonderful Ashburn establishments that allow you to escape the every day are NOT your office or home. This particular lady was all spread out, feet up on another chair and I now know more about her that I do some of my friends! Sheesh!

One good thing I accomplished was updating this great website, bringing you up-to-date of all the businesses and services in Ashburn, plus updating our Ashburn events in the forums. I’ve been excited at all of the new people who’ve registered for our forums, so jump in, add your events and comment!
